“India’s Push for Modern Infrastructure: Smart Cities and Freight Corridors to Transform Logistics

India’s Minister for Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, has unveiled ambitious infrastructure initiatives to bolster the nation’s logistics and industrial capabilities. Among the key measures is the development of 20 industrial smart cities, envisioned to foster advanced manufacturing and attract investments, aligning with India’s broader economic growth and job creation objectives. Another significant undertaking is the establishment of dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) designed to enhance the efficiency and speed of goods transportation across the country. Goyal emphasized that these corridors, part of a “Dedicated For Country” scheme, are vital to strengthening India’s economic framework.

To ensure timely progress, the government closely monitors and accelerates work on the DFCs, addressing bottlenecks and resolving challenges that have previously impeded their advancement. Once completed, these projects are expected to substantially reduce logistics costs and improve transportation speed, marking a critical step toward modernizing India’s infrastructure. These initiatives underscore the Modi government’s commitment to leveraging infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth and improved operational efficiency in the logistics sector.
