Congress Unveils Second List of 23 Candidates for Maharashtra Elections 2024

The Congress party has announced its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for 10 November 2024. This follows a Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on October 26, 2024. With this latest release, Congress declared 71 candidates, having previously released a list of 48 candidates two days prior.

Key highlights from the second list include Girish Krushnarao Pandav’s nomination to contest from the Nagpur South constituency, a seat that has been a point of contention between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT). In a significant decision, Kailash Gorantyal is the only sitting MLA to be renominated; he will contest from the Jalna assembly constituency.

Notably, two incumbent MLAs, Maroti Korote from Amgaon and Lahu Kanade from Shrirampur, have been replaced by Rajkumar Puram and Hemant Ogale, respectively.

In Mumbai, the Congress has named several candidates for key constituencies, including:

  • Ganesh Kumar Yadav for Sion-Koliwada,
  • Yashwant Singh for Charkop and
  • Kalu Badheliya for Kandivali East.

As the October 29, 2024, nomination deadline approaches, the Congress is also engaged in discussions with its allies in the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition regarding seat-sharing arrangements. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat is expected to meet Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to finalize these details.
