Baba Siddique Assassinated in Mumbai: High-Profile Political Murder Shakes Maharashtra

Mumbai, 12 October 2024 Baba Siddique, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former Maharashtra minister, was tragically shot dead in Bandra East on Vijaya Dashami. The attack occurred outside his son Zeeshan’s office, where Siddique was celebrating the festival by bursting crackers. Three assailants opened fire, hitting Siddique in the stomach and chest. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The shocking incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern over Mumbai’s law and order situation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that two suspects have been arrested, while a third remains at large. The authorities have promised a thorough investigation into the case.

Ajit Pawar, NCP leader, expressed deep sorrow over Siddique’s death, saying, “We have lost a leader who fought for the minority community and championed secularism.” Political figures across the spectrum have condemned the killing, calling for swift justice and accountability.

Siddique was widely respected not only for his political work but also for his social contributions. Known for hosting grand Iftar parties attended by prominent political and Bollywood figures, he recently made headlines for his switch from Congress to NCP earlier this year, marking a significant moment in his political journey.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Maharashtra, with many leaders calling for strengthened security measures in the state.
